An area bank will be providing over $10,000 to fight food insecurity in Marion County. According to Arvest Bank, money provided by its 14th-annual Million Meals campaign is the equivalent of 51,104 meals benefiting the Flippin School backpack program and the Yellville Area Food Closet.

The money raised for Marion County totals $10,220.93. The Flippin School District Food Pantry will receive $1,523.93, and the Yellville Area Food Closet will get the remaining $8,697.

The Million Meals campaign raises money to feed communities in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas each year. Every dollar raised provides up to five meals for local hungry families.

Monetary donations from the two-month campaign were reportedly given directly to food partners to help stock pantries during the busy summer months. Throughout its four-state area, Arvest Bank’s campaign provided more than 2.6 million meals by donating $524,451 to 85 food partners.

The Million Meals campaign is held annually from April through May. Since the initiative began in 2011, more than 25 million meals have been provided, and more than $4.6 million have been donated.
