A Mountain Home man is dead from an apparent drowning after he fell out of a boat Friday on the White River. Seventy-nine-year-old Robert Vona was pronounced dead near the scene at Buffalo City.

According to the incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatch received a call of a subject being brought to Buffalo City from cardiac arrest. A deputy arrived to observe CPR being performed on a male in the boat.

Vona and his wife were two of the boat’s four occupants. They launched around 8 Friday morning and anchored at the first shoals up from the public launch area. The anchor was reportedly hung up, and the boat swung, causing Vona to fall out of the boat with his chair as he was standing up. He was not wearing a life jacket and was under for two to three minutes before the others got him back in the boat.

A Baxter County investigator determined there were no signs of criminal activity from the incident.
