A man has been arrested after he injected Fentanyl into his wife’s IV while she was in the hospital. Fifty-four-year old James Darrell Holloway of Salem is charged with introducing a controlled substance into another person’s body, a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.According to the probable cause affidavit from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Holloway’s wife was a patient at the hospital in June when the incident happened. She was alert and coherent until Holloway came to visit. He stayed just a few minutes and then left and went to the lobby.
Within minutes, the victim was unresponsive, gurgling and foaming at the mouth. Narcan was administered and blood work showed Fetanyl was in her system. While the doctor and nurses were working on the victim, Holloway was yelling and cursing wanting to know what was going on and told them he had only given her an Ibuprofen.
Hours later the victim told the nursing staff her husband had given her a “cathy” in her IV.
Holloway returned the next day and was refused entry to his wife’s room and was arrested for criminal trespass.
Holloway is being held in the Fulton County Jail on $50,000 bond.
