
Thursday’s opening round of the Chuck Morton Memorial Junior Golf Championship is in the books at Big Creek Golf and Country Club.
Cody Cormican and Sam Patterson share the overall lead on the boys’ side after both shot a three-under-par 69.
Cormican leads the 14-and-15 age group. He currently holds a three-stroke advantage over Garrison Whitworth and Bradley Benton.
Patterson is ahead of Jett Stephenson by two strokes among the 16-to-18-year-olds. Terrance Kempson, Holtz Helms and Riley Davis are tied for third at an even-par 72.
Brody Knapp leads ages 12 and 13 with a 78. Henry Aicklen is second with a 90, and Bryant Edens is third with a 105.
The 10-and-11 age group is led by Kooper Bateman with a nine-hole total of 44. Gavin Piland is second with a 60.
Liza McIlvoy is at the top of the girls’ overall leaderboard with an 83. McIlvoy has a two-stroke lead over Isabella Curtis in the 16-to-18 division. Drew Katherine Mizanin and Jaylen Cameron are tied for third with an 88.
Callie Short leads ages 14 and 15 with a 97. Massey Hayes is second with a 109, and Ashley Smith is third with a 116.
The final round of the tournament will be held Friday. Tee time is scheduled for 8.
