
Two area high school volleyball teams played their state tournament openers during the early evening on Tuesday.
Izard County was one and done in the Class 2A State Tournament at Hackett. The Lady Cougars suffered a four-set defeat as St. Joseph posted scores of 25-12, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-23. Izard County’s season ends at 10-9.
Valley Springs was eliminated from the first round of the Class 3A State Tournament at Paris. Harding Academy defeated the Lady Tigers in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-13. Valley Springs wraps up the year at 20-8.
In Missouri, West Plains’ quest for a state tournament bid fell short in the championship match of the Class 4, District 1 Tournament at Farmington. The top-seeded Lady Zizzers lost in straight sets as the host Black Knights posted scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22. West Plains’ season ends at 27-12.
