Friday basketball results include Yellville-Summit girls winning opener in Bank OZK Classic

The Yellville-Summit High School girls’ basketball team was able to win its opener in the Bank OZK Classic at Ozark. The Lady Panthers edged out Paris 40-39.

Three area teams continued action in the CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament at Berryville. Viola’s girls suffered a 48-38 defeat at the hands of Crane, Mo. Both Mountain View teams advanced to the finals as their girls routed Mayflower 71-42, and their boys topped Heber Springs 57-49.

The Bakersfield girls had a rough outing in their second game of the Gainesville Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament. Bakersfield lost to another group of Lady Lions from Mansfield 48-33.

Bakersfield’s boys advanced to the championship game of the Winter Warrior Classic at Ste. Genevieve. The Lions beat Valle Catholic 51-41.

Three area boys’ teams resumed play in the Cabool Holiday Tournament. Gainesville topped Summersville 53-43, Dora was eliminated by Plato 52-45, and Mammoth Spring fell to Eminence 51-49.

A few area teams were in Harrison for the second day of the Lendel Thomas Classic. On the boys’ side, Salem lost to Mena 66-44, Bergman fell to Carthage, Mo., 62-59, and Valley Springs lost to Harrison 89-46. On the girls’ bracket, Bergman got past Earle 62-57, and Harrison lost to Branson 46-33.

The Izard County boys competed in the semifinals of the Poplar Bluff Showdown and fell to the host Mules 50-43. Gabe Spray led the Cougars with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Cash Arnhart added 10 points. Izard County falls to 7-7 on the season.

Dora’s girls lost their opener in the 12 Courts of Christmas at Kansas City. The Lady Falcons fell to West Platte 37-31.

Three area girls’ teams took part in the second day of the Lady Blackhawk Invitational at Pea Ridge. Mammoth Spring lost on the consolation side of the bracket to Alma 62-27. In the semifinals, Melbourne beat Pea Ridge 66-49, and Valley Springs lost to Arkadelphia 47-45.

The Melbourne boys won their semifinal game in the Maverick Division of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland. The Bearkatz got past Thayer 57-52.

A few area boys’ teams played in the first day of the North Arkansas College High School Pioneer Classic at Harrison. Rural Special beat Lead Hill 68-47, and Ozark Mountain fell to Concord 56-51.
