Three area high schools sent their bowling teams to Jonesboro on Wednesday to compete in the Classes 2A/1A State Tournament Wednesday at Hijinx.

The Norfork boys’ quest for a third straight championship and ninth overall came up short, but they were able to advance to next week’s Arkansas State Bowling Centers Association Overall Tournament. The Panthers finished second with a total of 3,860 pins. Calico Rock was third with 3,798, and Izard County ended up seventh with 3,405. The title went to Ridgefield Christian with 4,136.

While Calico Rock just missed a bid into the overall tournament as a team, they will be represented by one of their bowlers. Mason Dixon took the silver medal as he led the Pirates with a 654 series, and he was joined on the All-State team by three other area bowlers. Norfork’s Aiden Anderson finished fourth with a 581 series, fellow Panther Lincoln Havner was sixth with a 567, and Korbin Stapleton of Calico Rock ended up ninth with a 553. The gold was captured by Concord’s Chad Mansfield with a 674 series.

Norfork’s girls came up just short of an overall tournament berth as they took third place with a total of 3,073 pins. Calico Rock finished fourth with 2,782, and Izard County was seventh with 2,597. Concord won the state championship with 3,301 pins.

Three area bowlers advanced to the overall tournament on the girls’ side. Norfork’s Emily Sharpe ended up with the silver medal with a 493 series, fellow Lady Panther Shelby Free took seventh place with a 428, and Grasyn Sanders of Calico Rock finished tied for 10th place with a 417. The Lady Pirates were also represented on the All-State team by Kenya Spiers as she was 12th with a 416 series. The gold medal went to Concord’s Lissa Mansfield with a 546 series.

The overall tournament will be held next Wednesday at Fast Lane Entertainment in Lowell.
