
Mountain Home’s junior high track teams had a successful day in Pocahontas. Both Junior Bomber teams won the Junior PECO Relays on Tuesday.
On the girls’ side, Melbourne finished ninth, Salem was 11th, and Yellville-Summit ended up 15th.
Individually for Mountain Home, Eliana Pepin won the 100-meter dash, the high jump and the triple jump; Ella Hampton won the 200-meter dash; Brook Bertalotto won the 1600-meter run; MaKenna Miller won the pole vault; Makenzie Kotlowski won the shot put; Mayce Carlson took second place in the 200-meter dash; Callie Kohler finished second in the 300-meter hurdles; Joslin Haney was second in the discus throw; Jocelyn Green ended up second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump; Christieann Stickles took third place in the 400-meter dash; and Audrey Birkhimer finished third in the high jump. The team of Pepin, Shayn Whickersham, Hampton and Miller won the 4×100-meter relay; Whickersham, Audrey Hughes, Birkhimer and Carlson won the 4×200-meter relay; Green, Carlson, Kohler and Whickersham won the 4×400-meter relay; and Bertalotto, Addison McCarn, Stickles and Ashley Smith won the 4×800-meter relay.
Among other area athletes, Salem’s Chesney Smith was third in the 200-meter dash, and Aubrey Warner ended up third in the 800-meter run.
In the boys’ team standings, Yellville-Summit took 14th place, Salem finished 15th, and Melbourne was 18th.
For the Junior Bomber boys, Simeon Costner won the 1600-meter run, William Tucker ended up second in the pole vault, Garret Watts took second place in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash and the long jump, and Chris Leaming finished third in the discus. The team of Ryan Cooper, Brody Rose, Hunter Ford and Costner was second in the 4×800-meter relay.
A few other area junior high teams competed in the Heber Springs Junior High Panther Relays. Both team titles were captured by Vilonia.
On the boys’ side, Harrison ended up third, Mountain View finished tied for ninth place, and Flippin was tied for 15th.
Individually, Mountain View’s Lincoln Cook and DJ Oden took first and second in the high jump, Xavier Frieze of Harrison ended up second in the long jump and the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash, and Harrison’s Porter Blankenship finished third in the triple jump. Harrison’s team of Christian Cain, Brayden Rhein, Dawson Smith and Bentley Wade won the 4×200-meter relay; and Rhein, Dublin Eddings, Wade and Frieze of Harrison won the 4×100-meter relay.
In the girls’ results, Harrison was third, Mountain View ended up ninth, Izard County took 12th place, and Flippin finished 16th.
Mountain View’s Erin Akins won the 1600-meter run and was second in the 800-meter run and third in the triple jump, Lieghann Cope of Harrison won the shot put and the discus, Harrison’s Greta Jones ended up second in the shot put, and Remington Watson of Harrison took third place in the long jump.
