A Mountain Home woman wanted for stealing a credit card in a local store recently fled from a Baxter County deputy Tuesday night when he tried to make a traffic stop on her vehicle and then fled on foot once he found her vehicle idling. She was later found hiding in some bushes with some drugs. Facing multiple charges for the incidents is 46-year-old Kathleen Elaine Brown who has an extensive felony arrest history.

According to the incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to initiate the traffic stop for a broken taillight on Brown’s vehicle on Arkansas State Highway 5 North. Brown turned around and went back the direction she had just come from and then turned onto Cannie Baker and then onto a side street. The deputy was able to catch up to her and found her vehicle parked in a driveway of a residence still running, but Brown was not inside. A passenger was in the front seat told the deputy Brown was the driver and which way she ran.

It was determined Brown had a felony warrant, so the sheriff’s office asked for the Mountain Home Police Department to bring their K9 unit to assist in the search for Brown.

A short time later, Brown was found hiding in the bushes behind a residence. Beside her were three baggies, two of which contained a white crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine and the other was empty but had a white residue. Also found near her was a glass pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamine, with a white residue, and a baggie with a small amount of methamphetamine.

In her vehicle, deputies found $281 in cash, a digital scale with white residue on it and another glass pipe.

The warrant for Brown was issued by the Mountain Home Police Department after a woman reported she had lost her credit card while shopping in a local store. Surveillance video shows Brown picking up the card and hiding it on her person and walking towards the back of the store.

When confronted by store management, Brown at first denied having the card, then eventually she said she had hid the card in a package of gum at the checkout. The card was recovered, but before law enforcement arrived, Brown fled the scene.

For that incident, Brown is charged with theft of property with a $5,000 bond.

For the Tuesday night incident in the county, Brown is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and fleeing, all felonies along with misdemeanor charges of fleeing on foot, careless driving and defective taillights. She also faces a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender meaning she has four or more felony convictions. Her bond for these charges is set at $10,000, making her total bond $15,000.

Brown has nine felony arrests, all in Baxter County, dating back to 2015. Her charges have included delivery of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia to manufacture methamphetamine, unlawful use of a communication device, forgery, theft by receiving, possession of drug paraphernalia, furnishing prohibited articles, theft property and lottery fraud.
