Two Romanians, one wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have been arrested in Searcy County after they stole chickens from a woman and assaulted her in the process. Being held in the Searcy County Jail are 49-year-old Dumitru Gheorghe and 45-year-old Ruxanda Ghiocel. Where they are exactly from is not known. Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the vehicle the two were in had Texas tags but the two had New York driver’s licenses.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a residence along U.S. Highway 65 in St. Joe for a call of a man and woman using physical force to steal chickens.

The victim told deputies the couple stopped at her residence and asked if they could buy some chickens. The victim told the couple the chickens were not for sale. The victim said one of suspects grabbed her and held her and shoved an undisclosed amount of money in her pocket. This was done while minor children were close by.

Ghiocle then used physical force to drag the victim towards the chickens and stole five of them. The couple put the chickens in their car and sped away.

Deputies located the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 27 in Marshall and conducted a traffic stop. The chickens were still in the vehicle.

Both Ghiocel and Gheorghe are charged with robbery, criminal trespass and third degree assault. Bond for Ghiocel is set at $50,000. Gheorghe is being held without bond and ICE has a detainer on him.
