The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is warning residents about a wave of fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the “Arkansas Vehicle Administration,” attempting to collect payment for traffic violations.

The scam messages often include fake links that appear to originate from ARDOT and sometimes reference actual ticket numbers to appear legitimate. ARDOT officials say they have received multiple reports of the texts circulating across the state.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, which handles vehicle-related matters, is not affiliated with ARDOT. Officials emphasized that the texts are not valid and urged Arkansans to remain cautious.

“DFA will never send you a text regarding a traffic ticket,” DFA spokesperson Scott Hardin said. “Please ignore it and warn friends and family. Thousands of Arkansans are receiving this text today.”

The latest scam follows a similar scheme earlier this year. In February, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin warned about fraudulent text messages impersonating toll service providers to steal personal and payment information.

“If you get one of these texts, please fill out the robocall reporting form on my website, and do not send payment to any entity that only contacts you via text,” Attorney General Tim Griffin said.
