Through community effort a lost archive of year books in Marion County has been located and is available once again to the public to use.

Years ago a project was undergone at the Marion County Library to collect the annuals from local schools and digitize them in Compact Disc (CD) form for patrons to check out and have easy access to. Assistant Librarian Anita Best shares more on the process that was taken to archive the books.

Two copies of the CDs containing all the yearbooks ranging from 1940 to 2014 were then made available to the public.

Over time the project was forgotten and interest in the archive faded until recently when a patron inquired to use the collection. Best says that’s when library staff realized they had no idea where the CD copies had gone to.

Since taking back the collection of annuals multiple backup copies have been made and are available to check out once again. Efforts are underway to transfer the digital version of the annuals to the library’s website so they can be visited at any time from the internet. Anita Best is proud of the work everyone put in to save this important part of Marion County history, “that’s just how a community can come together to find lost items.”

To view the collection visit the Marion County Library located at 308 Old Main Street in Yellville.
