A Marion County man has been arrested on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges. Kidnapping is a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty. Forty-five-year-old William Zachariah McCormack of Flippin is being held in the Marion County Detention Center.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told the responding deputy she and McCormack had argued and McCormack had assaulted her and it looked like during the attack he was going to kill her. She said McCormack would not let her leave the residence for nearly five hours.
The victim says McCormack choked her, struck her in the head multiple times and attempted to pull her nose ring out. When she tried to escape out a bedroom window, he pulled her back into the house.
The deputy noted the victim had red marks on her face and swelling on her cheek and ear.
McCormack’s bond is set at $50,000.
McCormack has two previous felony arrests, both in Baxter County. Earlier this year he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. In 2023, he was arrested for breaking or entering. That case was nolle prossed when the victim decided not to pursue charges.
