The Baxter County Economic Development Committee met Wednesday morning to discuss the parameters for how funds will be allocated following the passing of a $50,000 fund for economic development by the Quorum Court on June 4.

When funds like these are created the county judge has the authority to delegate the funds to areas he sees fit. Baxter County Judge Kevin Litty says he wanted to create transparency by having the committee be in charge of the allocation.

One question some have posed to the new funding is whether this is to attract only new businesses or help existing ones in the county.

In speaking to KTLO News Judge Litty made it clear that the funding is not designed to go to one new business as has been rumored but instead can be spread across multiple entities as the committee decides. A resolution will be drafted up and voted on next week at the Quorum court outlining the distribution of the funds as allowed by state law and attached to the economic fund.

Litty says he believes investing in economic development will benefit taxpayers.
