Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has died, the team announced Thursday. He was 24.

“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning,” the team said in a statement. “Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”

The Cowboys did not disclose details surrounding his death.

Kneeland, a second-round pick in 2024 out of Western Michigan, had become a key part of the team’s defensive rotation. In Monday’s loss to Arizona, he scored the Cowboys’ first touchdown by recovering a blocked punt in the end zone.

The Cowboys are currently on their bye week and are not scheduled to return to practice until Monday.

This season, Kneeland had 15 tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss and six quarterback hurries despite missing two games due to injury. As a rookie, he appeared in 11 games, finishing with 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, 13 quarterback pressures, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery.
