Several Baxter County races draw candidates in first week of filing

Baxter County’s first week of candidate filing brought a mostly incumbent-heavy slate to the county races, along with a few new names stepping in.County Judge Kevin Litty filed for another term, as did several other county constitutional officers: County and Circuit Clerk Canda J. Reese, Treasurer Jenay Mize, Collector Teresa Smith, Assessor Jayme Nicholson Johnson and Coroner Sara Fischer.

For sheriff, Mark Hollingsworth, Brian Davis and Henry Campfield filed to run for the office.

Justice of the Peace filings include Dennis M. Frank in District 1, incumbent Mike McDonald and Teia Peters in District 2, Rick Steiner in District 3, Dirk Waldrop in District 4, Maryanne Edge in District 5, Lisa J. House in District 6, incumbent Bob Nault and Brian Ades in District 7, incumbent Edward Griffin and Micha Johnson in District 8, James Baker and incumbent Cameron Davis in District 9, Shannon Walker in District 10 and Tom Canta and Danny Woods in District 11.

Constable filings include Douglas Stephens and John Pate in District 1. District 10 Ronald Weaver and Frankie Baker in district 11.

Baxter County’s school board races also saw several filings. In the Cotter School District, Jimmy Morgan filed for a six-year term. Mountain Home’s filings include Tommy Knight, Barbara Horton and Scott Booth, each seeking four-year seats. In the Norfork School District, Darin Hughes and Steven Braun filed for four-year terms.

The candidate filing period continues through Tuesday at 3.
