Arkansas energizes its first utility-scale wind farm

Cordelio Power’s 135-megawatt Crossover Wind farm is officially online in Cross County, becoming Arkansas’ first operating wind farm and marking a milestone for the state’s renewable-energy landscape.”We are proud to announce that Crossover Wind is now generating electricity as the first utility-scale wind project in the state of Arkansas,” said Nick Karambelas, Cordelio Power’s chief development officer.

Located west of Memphis, the project will supply 100% of its electricity to Microsoft under a 20-year power purchase agreement. According to the independent power producer, the wind farm is expected to contribute roughly $950,000 annually to Cross County and provide more than $50 million to local landowners over the project’s lifetime, all while allowing farming operations to continue undisturbed.

“We’re especially thankful for the strong collaboration from Cross County officials, landowners, and the broader community, which has been instrumental in bringing this project to life,” Karambelas added.

M.A. Mortenson oversaw construction of the facility, which includes 32 U.S.-made Vestas V-163 4.5 MW turbines. Vestas will also manage long-term operations and maintenance.

Cordelio Power purchased the project in late 2023 from Steelhead Americas, Vestas’ North American development arm, which initially began development in 2020.
