A Main Street tradition that blends nostalgia, community spirit and Christmas storytelling is set to return as Calico Rock hosts its annual Living Windows event on Saturday.

Dozens of downtown storefronts will transform into life-size Christmas displays from 5 to 6:30, with each window featuring live participants reenacting scenes of holiday memories, traditions or personal stories. Organizers say the experience is like “stepping inside a Christmas card,” complete with music, lights and the small-town charm the community is known for.

Bambi Bowden, executive director of the Calico Rock Museum and Main Street Calico Rock Board, described the event as something that continues to grow both in size and statewide attention.

This year’s event will feature more windows than ever before, ranging from storefronts and community groups to families recreating memories from past generations.

Along with the live scenes, visitors can expect Christmas music from local performers, appearances by the high school band, open shops for downtown holiday shopping, and seasonal treats including hot chocolate. Santa Claus will attend the event as well, meeting families and posing for photos throughout the evening.

The night will conclude with a lighted Christmas parade beginning at 6:45. Parade entries will line up at 6, and Bowden encourages those who want to participate to find route details on the Main Street Calico Rock Facebook page.

While Living Windows includes judging for fan favorite, best decorated and most heartfelt displays, Bowden said the real purpose is sharing joy.

Residents and visitors from across the region are invited to attend, stroll downtown, browse the windows and, as Bowden puts it, “experience Calico Rock at its most nostalgic and most alive.”
