Santa Claus may have to turn up the AC on his sled this Christmas as record breaking warm temperatures are forecasted through the holiday week.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), beginning on Tuesday, warm air will begin moving into the region bringing highs into the low 70s. By Christmas Eve mostly cloudy conditions will dominate with a high near 74. By Christmas day the high is expected to be 76 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
NWS Meterologist Charlie Kelly says the conditions to create this unseasonably warm Christmas will begin forming early this coming week.

The current Christmas day high temperature record dates back just over a hundred 100 years when in 1922 the high was recorded at 73 degrees. A review of the last ten years of weather data shows an average high on December 25 of 48 degrees with the coldest Christmas in ten years back in 2022 with a high of 26. The warmest Christmas day in 10 years was 2021 with a high of 72.
Kelly says that conditions in the Pacific are contributing to this year’s above average temperatures.

As Sunday marks the first day of the winter season, residents in the Twin Lakes area can look forward to a break from old man winter this week. Heading into the New Year the forecast shows a trend of temperatures decreasing daily after Christmas returning the area back to conditions that will cause Santa to turn off the AC and switch back to heat.
