Magness reflects on Calico Rock prison rename

With the announcement last Friday of the renaming of the prison at Calico Rock to the Benny Magness Unit, the outgoing chairman of the Arkansas Board of Corrections is taking time to reflect on his time and accomplishments over the past 27 years.

Benny Magness spoke with KTLO, Classic Hits and the Boot News this week and was quick to point out that it was the board as a whole working together that made the progress during his tenure possible.

As the longest serving chair of a prison board in the nation, Magness says he and the board were was able to improve existing programs as well as implement new ones that continue to see success.

While no official date has been set for the renaming ceremony at Calico Rock, Magness says he expects the date to be announced for sometime in February or March of the new year.
