
The 2025 edition of the annual holiday tradition of basketball in The Hangar began on Monday. The 2025 Atlas Asphalt Tournament began on Monday as 16 teams, from 3 different states, began their 3 day journey in the tournament.
Mountain Home would take on Cave City in girls action, and the Bomber boys capped the night off against Dumas.
The Lady Bombers looked to bounce back from their 57-51 loss against West Plains before Christmas. Mountain Home would get off to a quick start and get out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter. Cave City would trim the deficit to under 8 but would get no closer as the lead ballooned out to 44-17 at the halftime break. The Lady Bombers would get out to a 30 point lead and the coaches from both sides agreed to play with a running clock the remainder of the game. Mountain Home would take a 53-22 into the final stanza. Every girl in uniform for Mountain Home would see time on the floor in the 2nd half and Mountain Home would cap off the 62-22 victory.
Jayla Yonkers would lead the Lady Bombers in scoring with 16 points. Both Brooklynn Mitchell and Livi Fosness would chip in 14 apiece.
Mountain Home improves to 7-5 and advances to the 2nd round of the Atlas Asphalt Tournament, on Tuesday, where they will take on Cabot at 7:20 pm.
The Bomber boys would look to build on a school record performance in their last game against West Plains, a game in which they would hit 18 threes. Mountain Home would kick off the tournament against the Dumas Bobcats. get off to a sluggish start, and thanks to a Rhett Gilbert turnaround jumper at the buzzer, Mountain Home would close out the first quarter trailing 10-6. Mountain Home would hit a flurry of buckets in the 2nd quarter, outsourcing the Bobcats 26-10. Mountain Home would see 4 different players reach 4 fouls but would still hold a 41-32 lead going into the final quarter. Mountain Home would hold the Bobcats in check and finish off the 48-40 victory.
Mountain Home was led in scoring by Rhett Gilbert with 17 points. Drew Haney added 14 points as well.
Mountain Home improves to 8-6 and will take on Paragould on Tuesday in round 2 of the Atlas Asphalt Tournament.
In boys action Paragould would defeat Lewisburg, MS 66-56, Farmington would mercy rule Rector 73-44, and Greene County Tech would win a nailbiter over Fort Smith Northside 56-53.
On the girls side Cabot would defeat Dumas 45-47, Paragould would thrash Lewisburg, MSS 51-18, and Greers Ferry West Side would narrowly defeat Georgetown, TX 48-43.
