With both teams carrying losing records, Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs carries bigger implications than the standings might suggest.

Las Vegas (2-14) is in position to secure the top pick in next year’s draft, a selection that could reshape the franchise. A loss would clinch that pick, though the Raiders are guaranteed at least the No. 2 overall selection. The team enters the game on a 10-game losing streak, and changes loom in the organization, potentially including coach Pete Carroll after just one season.

Carroll, however, is focused only on the game. “We’re playing Kansas City. They won the freaking division for 10 years straight or whatever it is. It’ll be fun to play them,” he said. “There’s no reason for us to think about anything other than playing ball. We got one week to do something special.”

Kansas City (6-10) is in unfamiliar territory as the team that has dominated the AFC West since 2016, appearing in five of the past six Super Bowls and winning three. Coach Andy Reid, confirms he will return next season and will aim to get the Chiefs back into contention, hoping to have a healthy Patrick Mahomes early in 2026. Kansas City will also have a top-15 draft pick to help build around its star quarterback.
