The U.S. Army has awarded Hanwha Defense USA a preliminary enhanced use lease for a potential production facility at Pine Bluff Arsenal in Jefferson County, pending final negotiations and due diligence.
Hanwha plans to invest approximately $1.3 billion to build a modern munitions facility aimed at transforming domestic production and modernizing the U.S. munitions industrial base.
Hanwha Defense USA CEO Michael Coulter said the company looks forward to strengthening “America’s arsenal of freedom” and continuing site selection with Pine Bluff Arsenal. COO Mike Smith added the facility will produce critical energetic materials, introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, and create skilled jobs in the region.
The project could also convert underutilized Army property into a modern asset supporting U.S. Army readiness and national defense priorities.
