
It was basketball time in The Hangar again on Tuesday night, as the Bombers and Goblins would renew their rivalry.
The night began with the Lady Bombers looking to build on their 6-1 5A-west conference record. In a stark contrast to the game in Harrison 3 weeks prior Mountain Home would get off to a fast start and lead 13-4 after the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter, however, Harrison would outscore the Bombers 17-16 but would still trail 29-21 heading into the halftime break. The third quarter Mountain Home would bludgeon the Goblins and outscore Harrison 24-4, in a third quarter that saw Mountain Home’s Jayla Yonkers score her 1000th point as a Lady Bomber. Mountain Home would invoke the Arkansas Activities Association sportsmanship rule and the clock would run in the final quarter as Mountain Home would polish off a 60-33 victory.
Jayla Yonkers exploded for 29 points to lead all scorers. Livi Fosness would pitch in 16 points, and Brooklynn Mitchell would add 8 points of her own.
Mountain Home improves to 17-6 on the season and 7-1 in the 5A-west.
With Harrison moving down to class 4A next year this would be the final conference game between the two schools for the foreseeable future. Harrison finishes 0-8 in 5A-west play against Mountain Home.
In other 5A-west girls action Farmington would run past Siloam Springs 92-33, Alma defeated Russellville 47-35, and Van Buren would defeat Greenwood 69-59.
On the boys side Mountain Home looked to complete the season sweep. The game would get off to a much slower pace than the last meeting between the two teams as Mountain Home would not score until the final two minutes of the quarter. In spite of this Mountain Home would carry an 8-6 lead into the second quarter, Drew Haney would score all 8 of the points for Mountain Home in the stanza. The Goblins would roar back and outscore Mountain Home 10-9 but would still trail Mountain Home 17-16 into the halftime break. Mountain Home would pick up the pace and nearly double their score in the 3rd quarter and take a 33-29 lead into the final quarter. Mountain Home’s lead would get down to as low as one in the final minute but the Bombers would pull away and gain the full allotment of tiebreaker points and secure the 53-42 victory.
Mountain Home’s Drew Haney led all scorers with 19 points. Rhett Gilbert would add 17.
Mountain Home improves to 13-11 overall and 5-3 in the 5A-west.
With Harrison moving down to class 4A next year this would be the final conference game between the two schools for the foreseeable future. Harrison’s boys finished 2-6 in 5A-west play against Mountain Home.
In 5A-west play Alma would defeat Russellville 75-54, Van Buren would run past Greenwood 81-53, and Farmington snuck by Siloam Springs 65-57.
