Upper portion of Cotter River Trail to close for sewer project work

A portion of the Cotter River Trail will be closed to the public beginning Monday.The upper section of the trail will be closed from the north gate at HIS Place Resort to just downriver beyond the new bridge where the above-ground cast iron sewer main goes underground.

The closure is expected to last approximately four to six weeks, depending on weather conditions.

According to city officials, a subcontractor for the sewer contractor will remove trees in the area to protect the recently installed sewer main from potential tree damage, as required under the USDA Phase II Sewer Project. Following the tree removal, the contractor will seal the inside of a concrete manhole located on the walking trail.

During the closure, trail users will only be able to access the lower portion of the Cotter River Trail from Big Spring Park.

City officials apologized for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for the public’s understanding as work continues to finalize the Cotter-Gassville USDA Sewer Project.
