The Calico Rock Superintendent says research shows schools that have gone to the four-day school week have seen their letter grades from the state improve and academic achievement has improved as well.
Green says even though it’s not why they are making the move, there will be savings to the school district by going to a four-day week.

Another big savings will come from not having to run bus routes one day per week, resulting in a 20 percent savings on fuel costs.
Green says some of the biggest concerns voiced by parents are daycare on the day school isn’t in session and the extra nearly hour in school, especially for the younger children.

The Calico Rock superintendent says they are applying for a grant to provide a meal and child care for students at school on Mondays.
Green says they will reevaluate the four-day school week next spring before deciding if they will continue it for the 2027-28 school year.
This school year, there are over 50 schools in Arkansas and 179 schools in Missouri using the four-day school week.
