Arkansas is set to receive approximately $44.5 million as part of a nationwide settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family.According to Tim Griffin, the $7.4 billion agreement resolves litigation tied to the company’s role in the production and marketing of opioids. “I am pleased to see Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family held accountable for their actions that perpetuated the opioid crisis across the country, including here in Arkansas,” Griffin said. “The money from this settlement can never fully repair the lives that were harmed by the proliferation of opioids, but it will aid in our continued commitment to treatment, research and prevention.”

Arkansas’ share will be divided into three equal portions. About one-third will be managed by the attorney general’s office, while the remaining funds will be distributed to cities and counties. Local funds will be overseen through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership.

The settlement includes attorneys general from 55 U.S. states and territories. Payments will be distributed over a 15-year period and are intended to support opioid treatment, prevention and recovery efforts.

Under the agreement, members of the Sackler family are prohibited from selling opioids in the United States.

Purdue Pharma’s operations have been transferred to Knoa Pharma LLC, which will operate under new leadership with oversight requirements and restrictions on opioid marketing.

The settlement also requires the release of millions of internal company documents related to its opioid business.
