Paragould hospital incident leads to car theft, crash arrest

A Hoxie woman is facing felony charges after authorities say she stole a vehicle from a Paragould hospital and was later involved in a hit-and-run crash.Brittany L. Cox, 32, is charged with theft of property, a Class C felony. Curtis Hitt found probable cause for the charge.

According to police, officers responded Saturday to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Paragould for a report of an uncooperative patient being discharged. Cox was escorted off the property and instructed not to return.

Approximately 30 minutes later, officers were called to a hit-and-run crash near West Mueller Street and Linwood Drive. Witnesses reported a blue Chevrolet Camaro ran a red light, struck another vehicle and left the scene.

Police later learned the vehicle had been reported stolen by a hospital employee. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Cox taking the car shortly after being removed from the hospital.

The vehicle was later located by Hoxie police with damage consistent with the crash. Cox was taken into custody and returned to Paragould.

She is also charged with a misdemeanor count related to leaving the scene of an accident and is being held in the Greene County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.
