Dora and Gainesville athletes closed out the final day of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 1, 2 and 3 State Championships Saturday in Jefferson City with several notable placings for the rural schools.

Dora’s top finish Saturday came in the Class 1 girls’ 4×800-meter relay, where Isabelle Martin, Montgomery Mitchell, Haley Perkins and Kinley Luna placed seventh with a time of 10:35.31. The finish added to a strong state weekend for the Lady Falcons after Perkins captured the program’s first field event state championship Friday by winning the Class 1 girls’ javelin.

Gainesville also had a relay team turn in a solid showing Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs’ Class 2 girls’ 4×800-meter relay team of Kaitlyn Kahl, Jessica Suit, Nina Sponaugle and Annabell Snelson finished 11th with a time of 10:37.88.

In field competition, Gainesville senior Macray Hambelton just missed a top-eight medal finish in the Class 2 boys’ javelin. Hambelton placed ninth with a throw of 48.63 meters, or 159 feet, 6 inches.

Dora junior Daniel Tomlinson represented the Falcons in the Class 1 boys’ 1,600-meter run, finishing 15th in 4:53.93.

Gainesville sophomore Jessica Suit placed 13th in the Class 2 girls’ 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:59.95.
