The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has opened the application period for permit-only deer hunts on many of the state’s wildlife management areas.

Applications will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. July 1. Hunters interested in participating may apply online through the AGFC website.

According to the commission, permit hunts help maintain healthy deer populations and quality hunting experiences on some of Arkansas’ most popular wildlife management areas by limiting hunting pressure.

A nonrefundable $5 processing fee is required for each hunt application. Hunters selected in the drawing will receive their permits at no additional cost.

Applicants may submit one application for each permit hunt category, including youth, archery, alternative firearms and modern gun hunts. Hunters must be at least 6 years old to apply.

Youth hunt applicants must be between 6 and 15 years old on the day their hunt begins.

Hunters may apply individually or as part of a party of up to four people. Party hunt applications allow groups to be drawn together but do not increase an individual’s chances of being selected.

More information, including available permits and previous drawing odds, is available through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s website.
