The St. Louis Cardinals continued their winning ways Wednesday night, rolling past the New York Mets 9-2 for their sixth consecutive victory.
St. Louis jumped on the board in the first inning and never looked back. Jordan Walker delivered an RBI single to give the Cardinals an early lead before the Redbirds added another run on a fielder’s choice to make it 2-0.
The Cardinals stretched the lead in the third when Nelson Velázquez launched a two run homer to left field, and Walker broke the game open an inning later with a three run blast that pushed the advantage to 7-0.
New York got on the board in the fourth inning with a two run home run from Francisco Alvarez, but that was all the offense the Mets could muster.
Andre Pallante earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits over six innings. The right hander struck out five and walked two.
St. Louis added another run in the fifth inning on Jose Fermin’s RBI single before Alec Burleson capped the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth. Burleson’s homer extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Walker finished with four RBIs while Velázquez drove in two runs as the Cardinals pounded out nine runs in the victory.
