The last week has seen multiple bear sighting across the Twin Lakes Area as young male bears are busy foraging for food.
Multiple social media posts and videos show brown and black bears making their way around the area. Last Thursday one observer recorded the sight of a small black bear making its way through the disc golf course on the campus of Arkansas State University Mountain Home. Another bear was seen the day before on Wednesday in the backyard of a home in Mountain Home.

On Sunday a listener left a message on the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news tip line that she had seen a yellow bear off of Cochrane Road near Buzzard Roost Cutoff headed to Highway 62. Another caller on Monday morning reported a large black bear on Sycamore Springs Road in the Tracy Ferry area saying it had been seen moving up their driveway.
Bear seen along Meadow Terrace in Mountain Home
In an email to KTLO News Monday morning a Mountain Home resident reported a small bear on Meadow Terrace near Walmart.
Bear sightings in early July are common in Northern Arkansas according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) as yearling males are on the move looking for new places to call home. Bears are often looking for the path of least resistance which is why they are seen along roads and roaming through yards. Motivated by food they are on the prowl looking for an easy meal.
Residents are urged to secure garbage, remove outdoor pet food, and avoid approaching any bears. No injuries or aggressive behavior have been reported at this time.
