The Arkansas Department of Transportation is now home to the Office of Keep Arkansas Beautiful following the passage of Act 148 during the 2026 Fiscal Session.
The legislation transferred the duties and responsibilities of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission from the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism to ARDOT. State officials say the move will better align community beautification and litter prevention efforts with the department’s existing highway maintenance programs.
Keep Arkansas Beautiful will continue its statewide education and community partnerships while working more closely with ARDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program and other litter prevention initiatives.
McKenzie McMath Coronel, administrator of the Office of Keep Arkansas Beautiful, said the partnership creates opportunities to expand beyond litter prevention by promoting roadside wildflowers, scenic byways and community beautification projects.
ARDOT Director Jared Wiley said litter remains a significant challenge across the state and that combining the two programs will strengthen efforts through education, enforcement and dedicated cleanup funding to help keep Arkansas’ highways and public spaces clean and attractive.
