An 18-year-old man has been arrested after police say he recorded a woman in a dressing room at JCPenney in the Northwest Arkansas Mall.
According to a police report, the woman was using a dressing room Aug. 3 when she noticed a cellphone camera positioned over the top of the wall.
After leaving the dressing room, she saw Diego Rivas leaving the neighboring dressing room. The woman confronted Rivas, and police examined his phone. Rivas denied access to some folders on the device, which was later seized by investigators.
A search warrant was executed Aug. 7. Investigators reportedly found searches related to video voyeurism and sex acts in public places, along with images showing Rivas recording people in public without their permission.
Rivas later returned to the police station and admitted to recording the woman in the JCPenney dressing room. He also acknowledged deleting the video after being confronted.
Rivas was arrested Aug. 14 and charged with video voyeurism.
He is being held by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on a $15,000 bond.
