Baxter County has issued a burn ban covering all unincorporated areas of Baxter County due to current weather and continued dry conditions. The order was issued Tuesday by Baxter County Judge Kevin Litty.
Outdoor burning may be allowed under special circumstances if the county judge and fire chief determine proper precautions are being taken. A written permit is required from the county judge and fire chief of the appropriate fire protection district, or the applicable governing body.
Violating the burn ban is a misdemeanor and is enforceable through the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department. The order states a first offense may carry a fine of up to $500, with subsequent offenses carrying fines of up to $1,000.
The ban will remain in effect until conditions change and the court lifts the order.
