Twin Lakes Chapter 30 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of local veterans, leading the charge in suicide prevention and community outreach across Baxter County.

The Mountain Home based chapter emphasizes solutions for veterans must go beyond the VA system, because many at-risk veterans are not connected to traditional support networks. Working with the other area organizations, local law enforcement, clergy, and health care providers, the chapter’s veteran-suicide prevention program has become a model for other communities.

In 2025, the chapter celebrated its 20th annual Veterans Outreach & Appreciation Picnic at Arkansas State University–Mountain Home marking the milestone of zero veteran suicides in Baxter County for the year. The Auxiliary Unit 30 was also recently honored with the “Arkansas Auxiliary Unit of Excellence” for cutting veteran suicide in Baxter County by 75%.

The veterans Outreach Picnic has grown from a small get-together at Hickory Park to an estimated over 900 attendees for it’s 20th anniversary. Dan Hall with the DAV describes to KTLO News how the event began 20 years ago.
