Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced that state offices will be closed Friday, November 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. The proclamation encourages Arkansans to spend the holiday with family and reflect on the many blessings in their lives.

In the proclamation, Sanders noted that the first official Thanksgiving was declared by President Abraham Lincoln in 1864, urging Americans to give thanks amid the Civil War. Today, Thanksgiving remains a time for friends and family to gather, share a meal, and enjoy fellowship.

The governor has designated November 27, as Thanksgiving Day in Arkansas, and the closure of state offices on the following Friday will allow state employees to celebrate with their families.
