No injuries were reported in a blaze that destroyed a house north of Gassville early Thursday morning, but the fire is under investigation by the Baxter County Sheriff’s office. The house at 238 Moon Hollow Lane, off Arkansas State Highway 126, was fully engulfed when the first firefighters arrived.
According to information from Cotter-Gassville Fire Chief Jimmy Morgan, Gassville Fire Chief Michael Glotzl and the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner, Gregory Mork, was not at home at the time of the fire and no one had lived in the house for quite some time. Mork has been staying in Wisconsin and there were no utilities active at the house at the time of the fire. There are solar powered cameras on the property which the homeowner viewed to see the fire and report it.
Five fire departments fought the blaze and were able to save a shop building on the property. They had to shuttle water from a hydrant on Highway 126 in Gassville. The departments involved in fighting the fire were Cotter-Gassville Rural, Gassville, Cotter, Midway and Mountain Home. The call came in at midnight and the last truck left the scene at 4:15.
An investigator from the sheriff’s office says neighbors report even though no one has been living there for some time, a car was reported at the house a few days ago.
