After a month marked by wild temperature swings, north central Arkansas is closing out December under increasingly dry conditions. There has been only just over a half inch of rain for the entire month, and last Sunday there was a 57 degree drop in temperature with high of 77, dropping all the way to 20 degrees.

KTLO News spoke with Joe Goudsward with the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock who gave us an update.

Goudsward said the area is in need of meaningful rainfall to help ease conditions.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain today, which forecasters say could provide some short-term relief, though more consistent precipitation will be needed to make a lasting impact.
