
What today is known as the Baxter Day Service Center began in a meeting in the basement of the United Methodist Church in 1971 in an effort to address the needs of six clients.
Now, 47 years later, the Baxter Day Service Center serves 60 mentally challenged adults through an operation covering six acres at the corner of Rossi Road and Leo Davis Drive.
Paul Neal has served as the director of the Baxter Day Service Center for over 13 years and says the agency’s mission remains unchanged since its inception.

The warehouse is familiar to many throughout the Twin Lakes Area as the recycling service center.

The recycling service center provides employment opportunities for the Baxter Day Service Center clients while helping keep the Natural State clean by removing numerous items from the waste stream.
The list of items that my be delivered at any time to the Baxter Day Recycling Service Center includes newspapers; catalogs; magazines; office paper; mix paper, including junk mail; cardboard; bimetal cans; soda and water bottles; detergent bottles; milk jugs; bottle glass and electronics. Items not accepted include used paper, household cleaners and hazardous items. Neal says keep in mind the clients sort the recyclable materials by hand.
