A school bus crash in southern Missouri late Tuesday night sent 20 people to the hospital, including one brought to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. KYTV reports the bus belonging to the Koshkonong School District bus was returning home after a basketball game when the crash occurred.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, all but one of the injuries were minor. A 17-year-old male was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains by ambulance for what were termed moderate injuries. The other victims were taken by private vehicle to seek medical treatment, including 15 who went to the hospital in West Plains and one who was taken to Baxter Regional.
The report indicates the crash happened when the bus, being driven 51-year-old Victoria Smith of West Plains, went off the right side of the road, returned to the road, then crossed the road several times before going off the left side of the road where it struck several trees and came to rest on the passneger side in the ditch. The driver was not among those listed as injured.
The crash happened on Missouri Route 99, one-half mile north of Thomasville.
