
While Bakersfield Schools remain closed for the remainder of the week due to recent flooding, Superintendent Amy Britt says the original schedule had classes wrapping up for the year on May 17.

Britt says to see the damage from the flood waters is extremely sad because of all the hard work put into these facilities by members of the community. She says the facilities are covered by insurance and work will get underway to restore them by folks eager to begin the work.

Britt asks that folks stay off the walking bridge at the park. Because all of the handrails were destroyed with last week’s high water levels, the walking bridge is not safe at this time.
The Bakersfield superintendent says her normal drive time to the schools is about 30 minutes. With current road conditions, that drive is now taking an hour and a half.
