Little Rock’s Municipal Airport Commission voted Tuesday to provide a $24,000 bonus to the airport’s late Executive Director, Bryan Malinowski.
According to an ATF search warrant affidavit, Malinowski had been selling guns without the appropriate licenses which lead to the ATF performing an early morning raid on Malinowski’s west Little Rock home. During the raid, ATF agents claim shots were fired by someone in the home who they later identified as Malinowski, causing them to return fire. Malinowski was hit multiple times and was treated at the scene by medical personnel until being transferred to a nearby hospital.
In a statement from Malinowski’s family, the questioned the government’s decisions that lead to the dawn raid stating, We do not understand the governments decisions which led to a dawn raid on a private home and triggered the use of deadly force.” The family said they had a chance to see the still yet to be released affidavit in the case, noting that they were concerned with its allegations but contending that it still would not justify a morning raid. At worst, Bryan Malinowski, a gun owner and gun enthusiast, stood accused of making private firearm sales to a person who may not have been legally entitled to purchase the guns, the family said.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Malinowski’s seat was draped in black with his airport badge and a moment of silence was taken at the request of Bill Walker for Malinowski. Patrick Schueck, the vice chairman/treasurer brought up how bonuses have been a normal routine, and spoke about how Malinowski had a “very productive year.” After his annual review in June, Malinowski was granted a $15,000 bonus, a 3% pay increase, and retirement contributions.
An airport spokesperson confirmed the bonus will be paid to his estate.
