A Mountain Home woman who has won the Great Southern Stone Skipping Championships three years in a row has been knocked from her throne, thanks in part to the Mother Nature. Ashlie Hueter finished second over the weekend in the women’s flight at the annual event held in North Little Rock, which was won by Maureen Skinner of Conway.
When the day started, the water was calm, but the winds kicked up, which made the water choppy and kept the skipping numbers lower than usual. Skinner won the event with just 12 skips while Hueter had 10 skips.
Hueter won the event last year with a tournament record 27 skips. Two years ago, she had 26 skips.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the Foodbank of Arkansas. This year, $2,500 was raised.
