After being down four with 17 seconds left, Benton’s boys were able to come back and pull off the victory Friday at Bank OZK Arena. The Panthers squeaked by Maumelle 58-57 to capture the Class 5A state championship.
Benton’s Terrion Burgess was named the game’s most valuable player with 18 points. Harrison Prickett led the Panthers with 22 points, and Anthony Spratt chipped in 11. For the Hornets, Malik McGuire scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Markalon Rochell had 18 points and 11 boards, and Cedric Jones recorded 10 points.
Benton ends up with a mark of 40-3. Maumelle’s final record is 27-7.
