Two Baxter County residents will represent Arkansas at the Senior Olympics this month in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary Jo Augustine-Traver and Kevin Pieper have qualified to compete in the 2025 National Senior Games, a biennial multi-sport event for athletes age 50 and older. The national event, often called the “Senior Olympics,” brings together thousands of competitors from across the United States in more than 20 sports.

Augustine-Traver, a longtime Mountain Home resident, will compete in five swimming events: the 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, and the individual medley.

Pieper will also hit the pool, competing in the 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard breaststroke.

KTLO, Classic Hits and the Boot news met with Mary Jo who talks about the benefits of swimming.
