Area woman arrested after stealing vehicle, leading law enforcement in pursuit

A Mountain View woman is jailed after leading multiple law enforcement officers in a lengthy pursuit where spike strips had to be used to end the chase. The incident leading to the arrest of 50-year-old Stephanie Lynn Ford started when a vehicle was reported stolen from a location on Main Street in Mountain View.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. Instead, Ford used the turn lane to pass a vehicle and narrowly missed another vehicle waiting to make a turn. An Arkansas Game & Fish officer joined the pursuit and got in front of the stolen vehicle, trying to block it in. But, Ford traveled into the oncoming lane several times to pass and the officer pulled to the right to let her by due to oncoming traffic having to take evasive actions to avoid getting hit.

The stolen vehicle continued on through Pleasant Plains as more officers joined in the pursuit. Officers were able to deploy spike strips in the Marcella community, deflating the front two tires. Ford continued on another one and a half miles on the deflated tires before stopping in the middle of State Highway 14.

Ford is charged with felony counts of theft of property, breaking or entering and fleeing along with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving. She is being held in the Stone County Jail on $50,000 bond.
