The Marion County Office of Emergency Management has launched a new emergency notification system as the county marks two years since the severe storms and tornadoes that impacted the area on May 26, 2024.
County officials announced the new Regroup Mass Notification System, which is designed to deliver emergency alerts through text messages, emails and voice calls.
The 2024 storms caused widespread damage, power outages and debris across the region, prompting days of response and recovery efforts from emergency crews.
OEM Director Melissa Penn said the new system will improve how officials communicate during emergencies and provide residents with timely information during severe weather, hazardous incidents, road closures and other public safety situations.
Officials emphasized the new system is intended to supplement, not replace, NOAA weather radios, which remain critical during power outages and cellular disruptions.
Residents can register for the free notification system online and customize the types of alerts they wish to receive.
All information submitted through the system will remain secure and only be used for emergency communications.
