(AP) – Police have identified a man who was shot and killed by an
off-duty police officer during a bank robbery as a 58-year-old Grant County man.
Police in Benton say the man had demanded money at gunpoint at a First Simmons
Bank Friday afternoon when the officer intervened in the attempted robbery and
shot Joseph Edward Turner Jr.
Turner later died at a hospital.
No other injuries are reported.
The officer’s name hasn’t been released. Police spokesman Matt Burks said the
officer is on paid leave pending an investigation.
The shooting is the third officer-involved fatal shooting in Benton in two
months.
