An Izard County woman has been named Arkansas’ 2016-2017 state 4-H president, a position no other Izard Countian has held.

Mary Alice Cole previously served as one of the 2015-2016 Arkansas 4-H State officers-at-large.

Cole joined 4-H six years ago with the poultry chain project, a project designed to teach 4-H members recommended management practices for the family laying flock. Since joining 4-H, Cole has also shown livestock, performed community service, counseled county and state champions, promoted 4-H to community organizations and traveled the nation.

Cole said, she is honored to have been given the opportunity to serve her county, and Arkansas’ 4-H and as president throughout this year she hopes to be able to reach and inspire 4-Her’s all across the state.

Cole is attending Southern Arkansas University and plans to major in animal science and minor in digital photography and film.

The last 4-H state officer to hail from Izard County was elected in 1959.
